The Holy Spirit

A. That He is:

1. Fully God (Acts 5:3-4)

2. The third person of the Trinity and not an impersonal force or influence (Matthew 28:19; 1 John 5:7)

3. The divine agent in:

a) Creation (Genesis 1:2-3; Job 33:4; Psalms 33:6, 104:30; John 16:13-15)

b) Revelation, wherein He reveals new truth (Luke 2:25-26; John 16:13; 1 Corinthians 2:9-14)

c) Inspiration, wherein he communicates truth to men (Jeremiah 36:2; Acts 1:16; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21)

d) Illumination, wherein He gives understanding of truth (John 16:14-15; 1 Corinthians 2:9-14; Ephesians 1:17)

B. That the Holy Spirit is a person with personal attributes of:

1. Will (Acts 16:6-11; 1 Corinthians 12:11)

2. Knowledge (Isaiah 11:2; Romans 8:27; 1 Corinthians 2:10-12)

3. Wisdom (Isaiah 11:2; 1 Corinthians 2:10-12; Ephesians 1:17)

4. Power (Isaiah 11:2; Romans 15:13, 19; Ephesians 3:16; 1 Thessalonians 1:5; Acts 5:3-5)

5. Love (Romans 15:30)

C. That born-again believers must be careful not to offend the Holy Spirit who can be:

1. Grieved (Ephesians 4:30)

2. Vexed (Isaiah 63:10)

3. Tested (Acts 5:9)

4. Resisted (Acts 7:51)

5. Insulted (Hebrews 10:29)

6. Lied to (Acts 5:3)

7. Quenched (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

D. That in dispensation, the work of the Holy Spirit upon the unbeliever is conviction (John 16:8-11), of sin (John 16:9), righteousness (John 16:10) and judgement (John 16:11).

E. That all who become the sons of God by believing on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:12), the Holy Spirit:

1. Regenerates (John 3:3-5, 6:63; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Titus 3:5)

2. Baptizes (1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Ephesians 4:4-5)

3. Indwells (John 7:37-39, 14:17; Romans 8:8-10; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19; 1 John 3:24)

4. Seals (2 Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30)

5. Fills (Luke 1:15; Acts 4:8, 31, 6:3, 5, 9:17, 11:24; Ephesians 5:18)

6. Empowers (Acts 1:8; Romans 15:13; 1 Corinthians 2:4)

7. Sanctifies (1 Peter 1:2;)

8. Anoints (Luke:4:18; 1 John 2:20, 27)

9. Teaches (Luke 12:12; John 14:26, 16:13; 1 Corinthians2:13)

10. Guides (John 16:13; Acts 8:27-29, 13:4, 16:6; Romans 8:14; Galatians 5:16, 25)

11. Calls to service (Acts 13:2-4, 20:28)

12. Intercedes (Romans 8:26-27)
